How to Move ETH to Mantle for Game Items

To buy an item listed on Mantle, you need its payment token on Mantle; for an item priced at 0.02 ETH, that means having ETH there first. A bridge sends supported assets from Ethereum to the Layer 2 network, where the game can use them. The Mantle Bridge for ETH is one way to move ETH or other supported tokens to Mantle.

  • Check which network and token the game’s listing accepts.
  • Bridge enough to cover the item and leave MNT for Mantle transaction costs.
  • Keep ETH on Ethereum for the bridge transaction fee.

Why do mainnet assets need a bridge?

Ethereum and Mantle keep separate balances. Having ETH on Ethereum does not mean a game on Mantle can spend it. A bridge connects the networks and arranges for the corresponding asset to be credited on Mantle.

In a typical Layer 2 deposit, the bridge takes or locks the asset on Ethereum and sends a message to Mantle. Mantle then credits the matching asset to your wallet there. The asset does not travel like a file between networks; the bridge coordinates the records on each chain.

Ethereum.org explains that a bridge is needed to use mainnet funds on a Layer 2. Mantle’s official documentation describes deposits as cross-chain messages. In practice, I’d check the game listing first: it decides whether you need ETH, MNT, or another token.

How do you move the right amount?

Work out the item price, then allow room for fees and the next transaction. For example, if a Mantle game lists an item for 0.02 ETH, bridging exactly 0.02 ETH leaves nothing for another ETH-priced purchase or any extra amount the game may require.

  1. Check the item listing. Note the network, payment token, price, and wallet address you plan to use. A listing on Ethereum may look similar but cannot spend your Mantle balance.
  2. Choose the matching asset. If the Mantle listing asks for ETH, plan to bridge ETH. If it asks for MNT or another token, use that token only if the bridge supports it.
  3. Leave room for fees. Keep ETH on Ethereum to pay for the deposit transaction. An ERC-20 token, meaning a standard type of transferable token, may also need a separate approval transaction. Keep a small amount of MNT on Mantle for network fees when you buy the item.
  4. Send the deposit through Mantle Bridge. Connect the wallet that holds the asset on Ethereum, set Mantle as the destination, and confirm the transaction in your wallet. Check the asset, amount, and receiving address before signing.
  5. Wait for the Mantle balance. The deposit must be confirmed on Ethereum and relayed to Mantle. It often takes several minutes, but congestion or processing delays can make it longer.
  6. Make the purchase on Mantle. Switch your wallet to Mantle, confirm the bridged balance is visible, then buy through the game’s Mantle listing.

What mistake catches occasional users?

The common mistake is bridging the exact item price and forgetting transaction costs. A second is arriving with ETH but no MNT: the item may accept ETH, while the Mantle transaction still needs MNT for its network fee. Arrange a little MNT on Mantle before you try to buy.

Before signing, check that the game’s listing is on Mantle and that the token matches the one you bridged. A token with the same name on another network may be a different asset. If the balance does not appear, check the deposit status and wallet network before sending again.

Once the asset and network match, the next step is simple: bridge the amount you need, keep MNT for the purchase transaction, and confirm the balance on Mantle before buying.
